Smith raddoppia, Nashville rimonta

Marchment gives the Sharks the lead

The San Jose Sharks eventually secure a victory against the Nashville Predators in a game that appeared to be slipping away in the final moments of the third period. The Sharks earn a 3-2 shootout win after holding the lead until only 0.8 seconds remained in regulation.
San Jose played a much better game than it did in its previous outing and opened the scoring five and a half minutes into the first period. A well-worked sequence involving Alexander Wennberg and Tyler Toffoli was finished by Mason Marchment, who gave the Sharks a 1-0 lead.
The game remained evenly balanced in the second period, with scoring chances at both ends but neither team able to find the back of the net. The middle frame ended scoreless, leaving San Jose ahead 1-0.

Smith doubles the lead before Nashville’s comeback

Early in the third period, the Sharks doubled their lead on a beautiful goal by Will Smith, assisted by Michael Kesselring and Igor Chernyshov.
With a two-goal advantage, San Jose controlled the game well, while several excellent saves by Alex Nedeljkovic kept the home team off the scoreboard.
Nashville finally made it 2-1 midway through the third period when Ryan O’Reilly scored on the power play. The Predators then pushed hard for the tying goal in the closing minutes.
Nashville pulled its goaltender for an extra attacker and created several opportunities, but Nedeljkovic continued to turn them away. Just when a San Jose victory appeared certain, Steven Stamkos tied the game 2-2 with only 0.8 seconds remaining in regulation.

Celebrini delivers in the shootout

Despite several opportunities at both ends of the ice, neither team found the winning goal in overtime, sending the game to a shootout.
Sharks captain Macklin Celebrini was the only player to score, securing the extra point for San Jose. Nedeljkovic capped off his excellent performance by keeping Nashville off the board throughout the shootout.
The Sharks’ next stop, for their eighth game of the season, will be Little Caesars Arena to face the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday, Oct. 17. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET—1 a.m. Sunday in Italy.
