Sharks Suffer Their Fifth Home Loss
The San Jose Sharks suffered another defeat, their ninth overall loss of the season, falling 2-1 to the Calgary Flames at SAP Center.
It was the Sharks’ fifth loss in their first eight home games of the season.
The opening portion of the first period was evenly played, but another San Jose turnover led to the game’s first goal.
Czech forward Adam Klapka gave Calgary the lead with a wrist shot with 5:24 remaining in the opening frame.
Wolf Denies San Jose’s Comeback Attempts
The Sharks tried to erase the deficit in the middle frame, but a combination of inaccurate shooting and strong saves by Dustin Wolf kept San Jose off the scoreboard.
The second period ended scoreless, with Calgary still holding a 1-0 lead.
The visitors doubled their advantage at 9:14 of the third period when William Stromgren scored the first goal of his NHL career.
Trailing by two, the Sharks increased the pressure as they searched for a goal to get themselves back into the game.
Dickinson’s First Goal of the Season Is Not Enough
Sam Dickinson cut the deficit to 2-1 at 11:57, finishing a sustained attack around the Calgary net. It was the defenseman’s first goal of the season and the second of his NHL career, scored exactly one year after his first.
San Jose’s late push was not enough. Even after pulling Yaroslav Askarov for an extra attacker, the Sharks were unable to find the tying goal.
The game ended with a Calgary victory and another disappointing loss for Ryan Warsofsky’s team.
San Jose will now begin a three-game road trip, starting Wednesday night against the Los Angeles Kings.
