Dopo il Draft scoppiettante dei San Jose Sharks, la prima giornata dei free agent ha visto protagonista la stessa formazione californiana, che ha praticamente cambiato pelle. Infatti, il GM Mike Grier si è mosso mettendo sotto contratto ben sei nuovi giocatori, ma allo stesso tempo tra scambi e giocatori liberi, gli Sharks hanno perso ben nove giocatori. Allo stato attuale, a parte Barclay Goodrow, Collin Graf risulta essere il giocatore con più anni in maglia Sharks, ben tre. Dopo le tre scelte al primo giro del Draft del 26 giugno, a partire dal primo luglio è partita la caccia ai giocatori svincolati. Desharnais, Regenda, Leddy, Klingberg, Kurashev, Reaves, Brossoit e soprattutto Mario Ferraro hanno deciso di sondare il mercato e di lasciare i San Jose Sharks. Gran parte di questi giocatori hanno trovano una nuova casa.
Partiamo dai nuovi acquisti in casa Sharks. Sono arrivati alla corte di Ryan Warsofsky il portiere dei Winnipeg JetsEric Comrie, i difensoriJacob Troubadagli Anaheim Ducks,DarnellNursedagli Edmonton Oilers eMichael Kesselringdai Buffalo Sabres. In attacco sono stati acquistati Andre Gasseau dalla formazione di college di Boston e Mason Marchment dai Seattle Kraken. Nurse è approdato a San Jose nello scambio con gli Edmonton Oilers che hanno ricevuto in cambio i due difensori Shakir Mukhamadullin e Zack Sharp. Marchment ha firmato un contratto di cinque anni, mentre Gasseau un contratto di due stagioni. Il goalie Comrie, invece, ha sottoscritto un accordo con gli Sharks di due anni, mentre il difensore proveniente dagli Anaheim ha firmato per quattro anni. Il giocatore ex Buffalo, invece ha messo la firma su un accordo di tre anni con San Jose.
Tra i giocatori che hanno lasciato gli Sharks, Ferraro ha firmato per i Winnipeg Jets, Vincent Desharnais è approdato ai Washington Capitals, mentre Regenda, Leddy, Klingberg, Kurashev e Brossoit sono ancora senza squadra.
