ENGLISH VERSION
The San Jose Sharks suffered a disappointing 2-0 home loss to the Buffalo Sabres in a game in which the California team appeared to leave its intensity and desire to win in the locker room.
The visitors controlled the game, particularly in terms of shots on goal. Buffalo put 40 shots on Yaroslav Askarov, while San Jose finished with only 23, a 17-shot difference between the teams.
Zellweger Breaks the Deadlock
The opening period was not particularly exciting, but the game remained scoreless through the first 20 minutes. That changed just one minute into the middle frame, when Olen Zellweger gave the Buffalo Sabres the lead with his third goal of the season.
The Sharks showed occasional flashes of good hockey and managed to generate several shots on net. However, a combination of poor finishing and strong goaltending from Colten Ellis kept San Jose off the scoreboard. The second period ended with Buffalo holding a 1-0 lead.
Ellis Shuts Out San Jose Before Benson Seals the Win
The same pattern continued in the third period. Buffalo controlled the game and remained organized defensively, while the Sharks tried to respond but could not score the goal that would have reopened the contest.
San Jose pulled its goaltender for an extra attacker during the final two minutes, but Buffalo capitalized with an empty-net goal. Zach Benson scored his first goal of the season to seal the Sabres’ 2-0 victory.
It was the second time the Sharks have been shut out this season. The first came on Oct. 5, when San Jose suffered a 5-0 road loss to the Dallas Stars.
The Sharks will remain at SAP Center for their next game, hosting the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday, Oct. 29.
