NHL: VITTORIA SHARKS ALL’OVERTIME

ENGLISH VERSION:

The San Jose Sharks could not have asked for a better start to the season, defeating the Florida Panthers 4-3 in overtime in their season opener.
Luca Cagnoni scored the game-winning goal, the first of his NHL career, while also recording his first career multi-point game. The No. 42 defenseman had already picked up an assist on Will Smith’s second goal of the night.
Smith and Macklin Celebrini led the way offensively for the Sharks, finishing with three points apiece. Smith recorded two goals—his fifth career two-goal game—and an assist, while San Jose’s newly named captain collected three assists for the sixth time in his NHL career.
The Sharks appeared to be in complete control after building a 3-0 lead midway through the game. The Panthers, however, refused to go away. Eetu Luostarinen cut the deficit to 3-1 with a power-play goal before Florida scored twice in a span of 17 seconds to complete the comeback and tie the game at 3-3.
Cagnoni delivered the winner in overtime, slipping a shot through goaltender Akira Schmid’s five-hole to secure both points for the Sharks. It marked San Jose’s first season-opening victory since 2021. The Sharks will remain at SAP Center for their next game, hosting the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday night, Oct. 3.
